The Neurotic’s Anthem

by Balete Candice Lauren Garcia

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

That’s what he said.

People don’t listen to ‘Chicken Littles’,
Boys who cry wolf, until
It’s far too late.

Wonder if it’s too late?
It’s never too late.

Goodbye. God be with ye, goodbye.¹
Particles, shards of memories,
Falling on me, piece by piece,
Tumbling, like
crumbling, cracking concrete.

The ground is sinking! The ground is sinking!

That’s what she said.

Most people don’t care about
Rising sea levels or
Polar bears, until
It’s far too late.

Wonder if it’s too late?
When will it be not late?

Goodbye. God be with ye, goodbye.

There’s no point in grieving.

People often forget that
Chicken Little was kind of right
in the end.

¹ | Goodbye, or God b’y, was a contradition for “God be with you” in Renaissance times.
